Nickel Plate Road #765

Nickel Plate Road #765

My first steam train excursion was with Nickel Plate Road #765 during the summer of 1982. The train left in the morning from Bellevue, Ohio and travelled to Orrville, Ohio. Later that afternoon, the train made a return trip back to Bellevue with a photo runby along the way. We'd gotten off the north side of the train, and after it had backed up, we moved to the south side of the tracks, and got a picture of the 765 charging through town. After the train had gone past the photo location, it stopped and backed up to pick us up, and we then continued back to Bellevue.

After arriving in Orrville, my dad took this photo of the 765. While at Orrville, there was some sort of festival going on. At one location, they were firing off this old cannon. That afternoon, the train was turned around on a wye track for the return trip to Bellevue.

On the way back to Bellevue, we stopped for the photo runby. Here the train is backing up after dropping off passengers to take pictures. The 765 comes thundering by, making a nice show for photographers and everybody by the tracks. After passing, the train stopped, backed up to pick up the passengers who had gotten off, and then continued on for the rest of the trip to Bellevue.
